American Horror Story Season 2 To Take Place In "Completely Different Time Zone"

Season two of smash hit horror series American Horror Story will not only be set in an entirely new location, with a new cast (or members of the old cast playing new characters) – both of which we knew already – but, the show’s co-creator Ryan Murphy has now revealed, it will also take place in “a completely different time period.”

Speaking at an Academy of Television Arts & Sciences event honouring the FX series, Murphy confirmed the new setting: “[Season 2] is set on the East Coast of the USA at an institution for the criminally insane run by Jessica [Lange's new character],” before adding the new titbit of information about the time period.

Presumably it won’t be sci-fi and set in 2112, but who knows with this show? We’re guessing it’ll be the recent past, rather than a full-on costume drama, but that’s not out of the question, and it would be fun.

All Murphy will reveal at the moment is, "It's a completely different world and has nothing to do with season one; there's not a mention of season one."

Murphy also spoke about the casting of Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine. “He’s a sexy guy so he needs to play a sexy guy, but the guy that is different than who you think he would play. I pitched him the part and he listened, slack jawed, and simply said, ‘I’m in.’”

Zachary Quinto, Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson and Lily Rabe — who in season one played Chad, Tate, psychic Billie Dean and doctor’s wife Nora — are set to return for Season two but as different characters.
