Comic-Con is fast approaching and the announcements continue to roll in. Following news that 2K Games’ The Darkness II will bedelayeduntil February 2012 comes confirmation that a Darkness movie is in the works. Independent film studio Mandeville Films (The Fighter) has joined forces with Image Comics studio partner Top Cow to bring “The Darkness” graphic novel to the big screen.
If you haven’t read the books or played 2K Games’ videogame adaptation of The Darkness, the series follows mafia hitman Jackie Estacado, who finds himself cursed with “the darkness,” an evil power that grants Estacado control over demons. That means Estacado gets things done with gunplay and demonic monsters, making for good FPS gameplay and potentially gruesome action scenes in the upcoming film.
There’s no word yet on who will be directing or starring in the upcoming film. But according to theLA Times, news of Mandeville Films latest project indicates that the studio is expanding. Other upcoming films from the studio include The Muppets (2011 film) and a new Hong Kong Phoey flick scheduled for 2013.
