Emma Stone

Who? Superbad scene-stealer who finally landed her breakout lead role in last year’s Easy A.

Why So Hot? In 2010, Easy A cemented Stone's status as Hollywood’s go-to funny girl . Her role as a high-schooler who manipulates the class gossip to her advantage won rave reviews and helped her land the coveted role of Gwen Stacy in next year’s The Amazing Spider-Man.

Stone's turn in the civil rights era adapatation The Help will showcase her more serious side and seal a spot on the A List.

What’s Next? A supporting role as Steve Carrell’s daughter in romcom Crazy Stupid Love is out in September, and a headlining turn in The Help , a film that looks at what happens when three very different women in Mississippi during the 1960s break unspoken rules with a secret writing project.

What’s Next? Country Strong didn’t perform too well in the UK and there's still no release date for On the Road. But Hedlund's breakout moment is definitely in the post.

What’s Next? Red Dawn and The Cabin In The Woods are both in post-production with 2011 and 2012 release dates respectively. Snow White And The Huntsman moves into production in the UK this month.

Anthony Mackie

Anthony Mackie

Who? As Jeremy Renner’s subordinate Sgt. Sanborn in Oscar winner The Hurt Locker , Mackie proved Renner's equal in acting abilities, winning stand out reviews for his portrayal of a by-the-book bomb squad grunt.

Why So Hot? Mackie has been grafting away for years (remember him in Half Nelson ?) and he's now being rewarded with roles in high profile films such as Ruben Fleischer’s The Gangster Squad with Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, and the much buzzed about Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter .

This year alone he can be seen in four films, including sci-fi actioner Real Steel with Hugh Jackman, and Ten Year, which will screen at this year's Toronto Film Festival.

What’s Next? Co-starring with Anna Faris in romcom What’s Your Number? – out in September.

Hailee Steinfeld

Who? Oscar-nominated for her debut feature – True Grit – at the age of thirteen? Pretty hot.j

Why So Hot? After her outstanding turn in the Coens' Western remake, Steinfeld's name was soon uniqiutous on casting shortlists, and she was hotly tipped for the key role of Katniss in The Hunger Games.

Paramount Pictures decided to keep their young star close though, inking a deal to produce an adaptation of sci-fi novel Forgotten specifically for Steinfeld. She’s also attached to a revisionist tale of Sleeping Beauty but both projects are still in early development stages.

What's Next? Filming will soon begin on a retelling of the Shakespeare classic Romeo and Juliet , which also stars British up-and-comers Douglas Booth and Ed Westwick, and will be directed by Carlo Carlei.

Jesse Eisenberg

Jesse Eisenberg

Who? After years as an indie staple, Eisenberg became an Oscar-nominated actor for his role as Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network.

Why So Hot? Eisenberg's performances in films such as Adventureland and Zombieland proved he could succesfully play the shy awkward geek who gets the girl and becomes the hero. In The Social Network we saw a different side to his acting abilities – the shy, awkward geek, who doesn’t get the girl, doesn’t become the hero, and is instead a complicated and reluctant villian.

Since then, we've mostly seen projects filmed before his Social Network -assisted rise, but he'll soon be back – working with director Noah Baumach in W hile We’re Young and then in magician bank heist thriller Now You See Me , with Melanie Laurent.

What’s Next? Eisenberg is currently filming Woody Allen’s next picture, The Bop Decameron with Ellen Page and Greta Gerwig.

Mara is now attached to star in Emanual And The Truth About Fishes , reuniting her with director Francesca Gregorini, and she's also circling films including a Howard Hughes biopic to be directed by Warren Beatty, and The Silver Linings Playbook .

What’s Next? The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo has a December release date with the tantalising tagline “The feel bad movie of Christmas”.

Tom Hardy

Tom Hardy

Who? Hardy broke through in 2010’s Inception as the smooth-talking, rocket launcher-toting Eames.

Why So Hot? Critical acclaim has stalked Hardy for years, but it took the Inception role to shunt him up to the A List.

Since then, he's filmed Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, which will premiere at this year's Venice Film Festival, Warrior with Joel Edgerton, This Means War with Chris Pine and Reese Witherspoon. He's also gained a potentially career-defining role as drug-enhanced badass Bane in the much anticipated finale to Nolan’s Batman trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises.

What’s Next? Both Warrior, about a mixed martial arts tournament, and Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, about a Cold War espionage veteran, are due for release this September. Recent reports suggest Hardy could also be eyeing a role as Al Capone in David Yates’ origin tale Cicero.

What’s Next? Cavill will star in Immorta ls, as the Greek warrior Theseus battling against the imprisoned Titans. Director Gus Van Sant ( Good Will Hunting, Milk) then recommended Mia to Cary Fukunaga for the title role in Fukunaga’s adaptation of Jane Eyre – it paid off, as Wasikowska and the film received outstanding reviews when it was released in America.

What's Next? Jane Eyre is finally released in the UK this September, and we can see what made Van Sant endorse Wasikowska when the much-hyped Restless is released in October.

Jeremy Irvine

Jeremy Irvine

Who? Picked from obscurity by Steven Spielberg himself, Irvine is about to headline Spielberg's World War I epic War Horse.

Why So Hot? Before being cast alongside David Thewlis and Benedict Cumberbatch in War Horse, Irvine had only spent time on the stage and in MTV UK series Life Bites .

The film, based on the novel of the same name, follows a young man named Albert (Irvine) whose horse is sold to the calvary by his father, and so he enlists in the army in order to reunite with the beast. It's one of the most anticiapted films this year, especially considering the stage play won Olivier and Tony awards.

Since filming finished on War Horse, Irvine has joined the cast of Great Expectations , to be directed by Mike Newell ( Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire), and also starring Ralph Fiennes and Helena Bonham Carter.

What's Next? Jeremy is currently filming Now Is Good with Dakota Fanning and Kaya Scodelario, about a terminally ill teenage girl who wants to experience life to the full before she dies. Nice.

Soon she'll start shooting Andrew Niccol’s adaptation of Twilight author Stephenie Meyer’s The Host, where in a post-apocalyptic world, aliens called “souls” have taken control of the bodies of the human population.

After that, she'll go back to the period dramas, working again with director Joe Wright on Anna Karenina .

Armie Hammer

Armie Hammer

Who? Hammer won the admiration of everyone when he deftly played both Winklevoss twins in The Social Network

Why So Hot? With his all-American good looks, it was only a matter of time until Hammer was cast as someone’s prince – and Relativity got there first, choosing him to play Snow White’s Prince Andrew in their still untitled Snow White movie, alongside Lily Collins.

But Hammer has proved it’s not all about the looks, with roles in Gore Verbinski’s action film The Lone Ranger, currently in pre-production, and indie thriller 2.22, which see’s him play an air traffic controller who witnesses a strange phenomenon that nearly causes two planes to collide – at 2:22pm.
