Gareth Edwards has already been there and done that in regards to Star Wars spinoffs. Star Wars: Rogue One was a box-office hit and Edwards is hoping the next one off the big standalone Star Wars conveyor belt – the Han Solo movie – is going to be just as good. In fact, judging by what he’s seen, the Rogue One director is very impressed. Jealous, even.
As reported by Comicbook.com, Edwards spoke about the upcoming Han Solo movie at the Empire Film Awards. The best thing about his comments? He’s just as excited as the rest of us, despite the challenges directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller face adapting such an iconic character.
“It’ll be a completely different film to what we did. I think they’ve got the hardest task, I think, out of all the films that I heard about that one is probably the greatest challenge,” Edwards said, before proclaiming, “They’re gonna knock it out of the park, but I wouldn’t have had the balls to do that.”
The Star Wars fanboy remains strong with Edwards who, despite his best efforts, couldn’t help looking at some material for the Han Solo movie, and he’s impressed to put it mildly, “They’ve [directors Lord and Miller] got really good taste. You glimpse things – you try not to – as you’re going about your business, but you see stuff. And everything I saw, I got really jealous about it.”
Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, and starring Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover, and Emilia Clarke the Han Solo movie is due to be released on May 25, 2018.
