Lionsgate has released a new trailer for upcoming thriller Safe in which Jason Statham gives a face-mangling demonstration of why he’s Hollywood’s go-to guy for pumped-up man of action mayhem.
Statham plays Luke Wright, a former New York copper who intervenes when he spots the attempted abduction of a young girl. However, this is no ordinary little girl, and she just so happens to have memorised a complex code desired by most of the New York underworld, including Triads, Russians and even some bent cops.
Check out the trailer below to see how Statham decides to resolve the situation…
The film is directed by Prince Of Persia screenwriter Boaz Yakim and contains the same level of hi-octane lunacy that served Statham so well in the Crank and Transporter franchises. The moment in which Stath hurls himself and an assailant through a plate glass window, using the thug’s body to cushion his fall… we didn't quite punch the air, but it was a close run thing.
Statham’s “New York” accent is all over the place as usual, but who cares when he’s capable of turning in fists-of-fury displays like the one on show here? And American accents are neither here nor there when you can tough-talk your enemies in Russian…
Safe opens in the UK on 2 March 2012.
