The mysterious Pokemon found in Pokemon Go's network traffic, aka Pokemon #891, has been officially unveiled by The Pokemon Company. Its name is Meltan, and it's the newest Mythical Pokemon to join the ever-expanding roster of Nintendo's pocket monsters.
In a series of tweets, The Pokemon Company also gave a description of Meltan and its capabilities. "Most of Meltan’s body is made from liquid metal, and its shape is very fluid. It can use its liquid arms and legs to corrode metal and absorb it into its own body. Meltan generates electricity using the metal it absorbs from outside sources. It uses this electricity as an energy source and also as an attack that can be fired from its eye."
The Pokemon Company also partnered with Niantic to create a short video showing a conversation between Professor Oak from the main Pokemon series and Professor Willow from Pokemon Go. It's a bit jarring to see characters of two vastly different art styles conversing with each other, but it gives a bit of backstory to the Pokemon and teases an adventure to come.
We've already had the chance to catch Mew and Celebi, so perhaps Meltan will be the next Mythical Pokemon players will catch in Pokemon Go? All The Pokemon Company is saying for now is that players who caught a Ditto should "take a closer look" and that "Pokémon Go is somehow key to meeting this curious new Pokémon in Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee".
