PlayStation Network adds indie games category

Sony continues its indie courtship with a new PlayStation Network subsection devoted entirely to independent developers. The Indie Games category will spread across the store's PlayStation 3 and Vita incarnations later today, with some limited-time discounts to celebrate the occasion.

The diverse category is home to games like Journey, Guacamelee, Thomas Was Alone, and more. If you want to boost your collection a bit, 8-bit crime spree Retro City Rampage is on sale for half off ($7.50) until May 21, Papo & Yo is discounted with extra savings for PS Plus subscribers, and Zombie Tycoon 2 is free for PS Plus subscribers.

The PlayStation Network Indie Games category is not to be confused with the wild wastes of Xbox Live Indie Games--the category is still curated and published formally, and as far as we know it doesn't have any creepy massage apps.

I got a BA in journalism from Central Michigan University - though the best education I received there was from CM Life, its student-run newspaper. Long before that, I started pursuing my degree in video games by bugging my older brother to let me play Zelda on the Super Nintendo. I've previously been a news intern for GameSpot, a news writer for CVG, and now I'm a staff writer here at GamesRadar.
