Daytona USA
Daytona USA 's Japanese karaoke-style soundtrack is arguably part of the game's charm. And that cry of "Daytonaaaa - let's go away" makes us feel all warm inside. But the background music from the Expert track - Seaside Street Galaxy - is inexcusable. Called "Sky High," we're sure the title isn't any kind of drugs reference. But if you were tripping on LSD, we reckon you'd probably come up with similar nonsense. Just say no, kids - this is your brain on drugs.
Of course, the singer's awesome inability to pitch his voice and "Engrish" delivery just makes it better (worse). Whoever thought "I wanna fry sky high / let's go-o-o-o togethaaah" would be a fitting sentiment for a racing game was sorely mistaken. It just doesn't work. Amazingly, after purely instrumental remixes for the Saturn and PC remake Daytona USA: Championship Circuit Edition, the full-vocal mixes were resurrected for Dreamcast's Daytona USA 2001. By popular demand. Taste is a funny thing...
