The official Switch 2 case just got a discount, but you should stick with this Belkin alternative instead

If you're planning on taking your Nintendo Switch 2 on a festive adventure this December, it's in your best interest to ensure you have a case to keep it safe and protected, and there are a lot of them out there to choose from.

Right now, the official Nintendo Switch 2 Carrying Case and Screen Protector set is down to $46.52 at Amazon, and while it's a small discount, there's a big chance that it's taken your fancy. But I beg that you grab this Belkin option instead. It's not an official Nintendo product, but the Belkin Carrying Case is also less than full price today at just $24.99 (Amazon), and not only is it cheaper, but it's one of the best Switch 2 cases I've tested all year. If you want a case that's sturdy and doesn't feel like a cheap sack of fabric, you're better off sticking with this third-party alternative.

Save $5 – This Belkin accessory is a far better option for those after a slimline and compact case for their Switch 2, especially now that it's $5 off. This isn't a record low, as there's still $1 separating it from its lowest ever price so far. However, for just $24.99, you're still getting a well-built carrying option for your pricey handheld that's equipped with space for up to 12 games and smaller accessories, and even a hidden Apple AirTag pocket.

Why you should buy the Belkin Carrying Case over the Nintendo Switch 2 Carrying Case for Nintendo Switch 2

The official Nintendo Switch 2 Carrying Case and Screen Protector set isn't the worst Nintendo Switch 2 accessory out there, but it's definitely not worth its discounted $46.52 price or its full $69.99 MSRP. The Belkin Carrying Case, however, is worth every penny.

It's very nice that Nintendo opted to shove in a screen protector and a cleaning cloth for the same price as its official case, but that protector is essentially just a transparent sticker and not an extra protective layer of self-adhesive glass. I pre-ordered this case alongside the handheld earlier this year and couldn't believe how flimsy and pathetic the 'screen protector' was when I first took it out of the packaging.

The case itself isn't that bad. It's just something I'd expect to see around the $20 price mark, and not one that's verging into the new Switch 2 game price territory. It's robust enough, but it feels more sack-like, and I never felt that reassured my handheld would be kept out of harm's way when taking it out for a spin. Belkin's case, which I recommend you grab instead, is really lovely, even if its design is a bit on the boring side. The case is equipped with a little handle so it's easy to carry with you as you're popping over to a relative's house, and the entire thing feels super robust and high-quality.

When the Switch 2 is placed inside, there's a fabric flap that rests on the screen to keep it free from any wear and tear, and after months upon months of use, the new 7.9-inch display of my handheld is scratch-free. On top of that, there's storage for up to 12 Switch and Switch 2 games, which you won't find on Nintendo's pricier option, and there's even a fabric mesh pocket opposite that for even more storage.

Neither case is the flashiest in the Nintendo Switch 2's ever-growing case repertoire, official or otherwise, but if you have to go with one, it should be Belkin's version every time. It's not just cheaper, but it feels more robust, features multiple storage options, and comes in a variety of color options. There's a reason why my own Switch 2 is sitting in the Belkin Carrying Case as I'm typing these very words, and the Switch 2 version is collecting dust in the corner of my office.

Ever since I first held a NES controller in my hand I've been obsessed with gaming, and the hardware it runs on. I could hook up a NES and SNES to a telly, without instructions, before I could walk. Even now, nothing is more exciting then taking a console, or handheld, out the box for the first time and setting it up. This obsession transformed into a love of games and game music, which lead to my music degree and dream of becoming the Scottish Nobuo Uematsu. After sharing my love of games through music, I began to share my love through words on sites like TechRadar and iMore. This lead to becoming a Hardware staff writer for PCGamesN, and later the Senior Tech Writer for Dexerto, covering all things Steam Deck, PlayStation and Nintendo. With that experience, I was able to level up as Hardware Editor for GamesRadar+, where I'm still just as Nintendo, PlayStation and gaming tech obsessed as ever.
