It's official – Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave is bringing back another fan-favorite character from Three Houses, but believe it or not, that still doesn't help clarify the timeline of the two games or which one comes first.
Today's Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave Direct was a treat – the latest footage details the different story routes, our true protagonist, and the fact that there'll be a Three Houses-style time skip, but one major detail was also included in such a nonchalant way that you might have missed it altogether.
When showing off some of Fortune's Weave's advanced character classes, we're shown the Dragoon class. We see a man with green and yellow hair riding on the back of a dragon, and – looking at his name in the bottom corner of the screen – that's literally just Seteth. In Three Houses, he's the stern, mature-looking wyvern rider faithful to Archbishop Rhea, and here, he's, uh, rocking a bandana and some really bad hair dye.
No, seriously, look at him. He's largely got bright yellow hair, but his natural green eyebrows are still intact, and his green hair is poking through at the roots and in patches at the tips. Clearly he didn't apply his bleach very evenly, or recently, for that matter.
Although some had correctly speculated that this character was Seteth when he appeared in a previous trailer, it's understandable that some are surprised by his adventurous new look, to put it politely. "Seteth why are you here. Why do you have the world's shittiest dye job. I can see your fucking green tips and eyebrows," one post reads, as another replies: "Ohhh they just fucked his shit UP."
Another Seteth fan asks the important question: "Why did they put seteth back but gave him a bad bleach job without his purple shampoo or toner[?]" Other reactions include "I hate this wig on you sis," and "he looks so chopped," even if folks are excited that he's back. "That's father right there," one sagely says.

But what does this mean for the timeline of Three Houses and Fortune's Weave? Well, frankly, it doesn't help, but we need to delve into some Three Houses spoilers to explain why, so proceed with caution.
In Three Houses, it's revealed that Seteth is Nabatean – a descendant of Sothis who can turn into a dragon. That also means he's extremely old, even if he doesn't look it. It's thought that he's over 1,000 years old in the 2019 game.
With that in mind, he could feasibly be alive well before Three Houses took place, or significantly after it. Of course, we've already seen a more adult-looking Sothis, but that doesn't necessarily narrow things down either – after all, Sothis looks a lot older in a depiction of her in some mural-style Three Houses artwork, as well as in a brief shot in its opening cutscene. So, once again, Fortune's Weave could feasibly be far in the past or future.
For now, it seems that part still remains a mystery. For now, though, we're just left with questions – namely, who did Seteth's hair, and why did he decide against his lovely beard?
