15 years after the original version released, The Binding Of Isaac: Rebirth has hit its highest-ever player count thanks to a massive discount.
Earlier this year, indie developer Edmund McMillen released his latest roguelike Mewgenics, which proved to be a massive hit. Not only is it one of the best games of 2026 so far, but a shout for being one of the best roguelike games of all time, and its numbers reflected that. It became one of the most-played roguelikes in Steam history in terms of concurrent players, beating out McMillen's own The Binding of Isaac, which is one of the best roguelikes ever in its own right, even if it was apparently nothing more than McMillen testing out the genre in preparation for Mewgenics.
However, Isaac has reclaimed its throne. Per SteamDB, the game is now sitting at a peak of 130,181 players (and that was updated five minutes ago), eclipsing the game's previous record of 70,701 back in 2021 upon the release of the Repentance expansion. This is undoubtedly thanks to an absolutely massive deal on the game, which features the roguelike classic and all of its expansions at $5.09 (with the bundle's previous low being $26.46).

Over the weekend, McMillen noticed the spike in players, saying: "Isaac is about to beat Mewgenics for active players on Steam… unreal for a 15 year old game." A day later, when the game passed Mewgenics' peak of 115,428, McMillen once again posted, saying: "The binding of Isaac has officially eclipsed Mewgenics for most active players with 123,429 active players this morning! (take that, me!)"
Mewgenics co-creator Tyler Glaiel also responded to the new peak with a post of his own, saying: "Just wait till we put Mewgenics on sale for 90% off in 2038 after 12 dlcs."
