After almost 10 years, a Dead Rising sequel is reportedly happening with Capcom bringing back time limits and trapping Frank West in a zombie-infested Hollywood
Capcom is reportedly taking another stab at reviving its (un)Dead Rising series, this time with a sequel featuring Frank West, star of the first game.
The rumor comes from a MP1st report, partly corroborated by VGC, which claims that a new Dead Rising game has been in the works for a few years now. According to the site's anonymous sources, Frank West will this time be trapped in an infested Hollywood studio lot by the game's main villain, a film director looking to shoot the 'perfect' movie.
The new Dead Rising is also apparently bringing back Frank's camera and the time limit mechanic, which put a timer on everything from main missions to helping survivors. And it just might be a direct sequel to the original 2006 game - you know, the one Capcom maybe-not-coincidentally remastered just last year.
For those out of the loop, Dead Rising 2 and 3 were sequels in name, but featured whole new casts, vibes, and settings. The divisive Dead Rising 4 brought back both Frank West and a shopping mall backdrop, though it's unclear if this new project will be set before the events of DW4 (or if it'll just ignore it entirely.)
There's no word on how far along this new Dead Rising game is in development, so we'll just need to hold our breath for Capcom to give us some proper confirmation.
Hot off last year's Dead Rising: Deluxe Remaster and a flurry of wildly successful Resident Evil remakes, Capcom's Kei Morimoto said a remaster for the second Dead Rising games was "definitely possible."
