Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 adds Balatro's Jimbo in a surprise new quest with a huge addition to the RPG's best minigame
The Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Balatro crossover is highly rewarding
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has a surprise new quest with a familiar face offering Henry the challenge of a lifetime: beat Balatro's Jimbo in an updated version of the RPG's best minigame, and you'll get a reward commensurate with your effort.
Warhorse surprise-announced the new Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 update on Twitter, revealing a new "Balatro-inspired quest" and introducing Jimbo as the open-world RPG's newest NPC. I love Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, and I love video game crossovers, so I immediately sprung to my PS5 and checked for an update.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 version 1.5.6 was waiting for me with about 7GB to download, and after just a few minutes I was able to dive in and see what's new. Jimbo is said to be hanging around the Hangman's Halter Tavern, but he wasn't there for me immediately. However, once I slept and saved in a bed he spawned just out front of the tavern.
*Spoilers for the quest to follow. Turn back if you haven't completed it and you want to go in blind*
If you initiate a chat with the new Jimbo NPC, he'll tell you he's traveled from Italy with a new twist on the popular Dice minigame that uses a very Balatro-coded version of a weighted die. Accept his offer and you'll sit down across from him at a table outside the tavern, and he'll loan you his special die to use against him.
The die, called Balatro's die, has a side with the jester's grinning face on it, and if it happens to land with that side up, you get to choose how it's counted. So, if you're one die short of a great combo, you'll be able to use Balatro's die toward whatever number you need. I was able to beat Jimbo my first try using it, and was extremely pleased to see it in my inventory alongside Tin Balatro's badge, which lets you change the result of your Balatro's die once per game.
Once you've obtained your Balatro die and badge, Jimbo will leave town on other business, but he says he'll be back "in a few days," suggesting there's more to this storyline.
Weekly digests, tales from the communities you love, and more
There are a few much smaller updates in the 1.5.6 patch notes, chiefly among them the addition of Steam Controller support, but let's be real, we're all here to see Henry and Jimbo team up to cure all of the world's evils.

After earning an English degree from ASU, I worked as a corporate copy editor while freelancing for places like SFX Magazine, Screen Rant, Game Revolution, and MMORPG on the side. I got my big break here in 2019 with a freelance news gig, and I was hired on as GamesRadar's west coast Staff Writer in 2021. That means I'm responsible for managing the site's western regional executive branch, AKA my home office, and writing about whatever horror game I'm too afraid to finish.
