Sorry Severance, Pluribus is now Apple TV's most-watched show

Many, many people have joined together to make Pluribus the most-watched show in Apple TV's history.

As confirmed by the streamer, the Vince Gilligan-created sci-fi mystery is now the most popular show on the streamer, though the total number of views and hours watched remain unclear. Unlike Netflix, Apple keeps its figures solely in-house.

The announcement was even made in typical Pluribus fashion, with a scene from the most recent episode that saw a non-plussed Carol (Rhea Seehorn) lighting fireworks in her empty neighborhood. This time, though, it comes with a message: "Congratulations, Carol."

Earlier this year, Severance raced past Ted Lasso to beat out the previous holder of the most-viewed show title on Apple TV (formerly Apple TV Plus).

If you're still one of the few holdouts not on board with Pluribus – Carol would approve, probably – then you're missing out. The Apple TV show sees romance author Carol Sturka become isolated after a hivemind takes over all but a dozen people on the globe. The series also stars Karolina Wydra as Zosia, Carol's hivemind 'chaperone', and Carlos-Manuel Vesga as fellow survivor Manousos. A second season has been greenlit.

Speaking earlier this year to GamesRadar+, Gilligan revealed he only wrote Pluribus with one person in mind – Rhea Seehorn, who he previously worked with on Better Call Saul.

"I wrote this show for her. I love her so much," Gilligan said. "We got to know her and enjoyed writing for her on Better Call Saul – so much so that I created this show just for her. I knew she would be good in it; I knew she was someone I could confidently count on and place a bet on in terms of making her the star of a TV show… I thought it was long past time for her to be a star."
