Someone has translated all of the Runes on Robert Downey Jr.'s SDCC jacket and they reveal some key details for Avengers: Doomsday
One Marvel fan has translated Robert Downey Jr.'s jacket using the Doctor Doom coffee menu from last month
Robert Downey Jr. showed up to the Marvel panel at San Diego Comic-Con last weekend in a Doctor Doom-style green get-up. But one Marvel fan has found that the Avengers: Doomsday star's green get-up wasn't just nodding to the villain. It actually contains a secret message.
Downey's suit jacket, which you can see below, has an ancient language known as Runes stitched on. Impressively, one Reddit user has deciphered the message, using language found at the Doctor Doom coffee pop-up in London last month to translate. "It’s a phonetic cipher of English," said the fan. "By cross-referencing the Dom Latveria Coffee product and both Elder Futhark and Anglo-Saxon runic alphabets, I’ve created a somewhat shoddy but still very accurate version of the Latverian Rune Alphabet. "
So what does it say? According to the Reddit user, Downey's right pocket spells "Revenge," and his left pocket spells "Justice." Now, those are just words, but other parts of the suit seem to spell out sentences. His lapel reads "There is no promise of tomorrow," his right cuff spells out "To the victor," and the fan guesses that his left cuff says "Go the spoils."
So, the full message reads, "Revenge. Justice. There is no promise of tomorrow. To the victor…Go the spoils." Now, that sounds like a warning to us. Doom wants his revenge, and whoever comes out on top will win it all. However, Doom's first name is Victor, which means he has confidence that he will be able to succeed on his quest for justice.
This sheds a little more light on Doom's motives. Thanks to the new Avengers: Doomsday poster, we know that family or the loss of it could be what is driving the villain to attack Earth 616. Fans theorize that Doom may have lost his family and universe due to an incursion possibly created by Steve Rogers traveling to the past at the end of Avengers: Endgame. This may be the reason why Chris Evans' Rogers returns to the main timeline, as we saw in the Doomsday trailer.
Doomsday's stacked cast list also includes Chris Hemsworth's Thor, the Thunderbolts, the Fox-era X-Men, the new Fantastic Four, the Wakandans, and so many more
