It sounds as though writer Lee Sung Jin is the perfect choice to pen the script for Marvel's upcoming X-Men movie, as the scribe reveals he has been a Mutant fan his whole life.
"Well, it's X-Men. It's something I grew up with. I have fond memories of my father and me waking up on Saturday mornings to watch the X-Men cartoon. I read the comics," said Lee Sung Jin to Variety when asked what it was like getting the initial call from director Jake Scheir. "So when he comes calling about that, no matter how much you've got going on."
What makes the writer's involvement even more exciting is that he roots for the underdog, meaning we could see some more obscure Mutants appear in the new movie. After stating that his favorite mutant is Gambit, he added, "I love Gambit. I also love a lot of the side characters. I love Jubilee. Everyone goes for Cyclops and Wolverine, but for me growing up, I always loved the supporting members."

Although X-Men: The Animated Series mainly focused on Wolverine, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, Beast, Rogue, Professor X, and Morph, the show featured up to 80 Mutants over its five seasons, which ran from 1992 to 1997. Now, that's a lot of characters that could inspire one when choosing which heroes to include.
However, the writer, best known for creating the Netflix hit series Beef, says not to take his comments to heart. "This is super early. None of this means that anything is going to happen," added Sung Jin. "This is just to say that I'm a big fan of the comics and I'm just very honored to have a small part in it."
Directed by Thunderbolts' Jake Schreier, the upcoming X-Men movie is still in the early developmental stage, with Lee Sung Jin and The Bear showrunner Joanna Calo working on an early script right now. Little is known about the project, but the film is expected to introduce a new set of X-Men after the original mutants take center stage in Avengers: Doomsday.
