Sorry, Resident Evil fans, sounds like The Boys' Antony Starr won't be playing Albert Wesker in a live-action adaptation anytime soon.
In the run-up to Zach Cregger's take on the hit video games, which is set to release in September, players have been taking to the internet to share hopes of the sunglasses-wearing virologist appearing in the movie. While filming on the sci-fi horror flick wrapped in January, many kept discussing who they'd want to portray the character – and Starr was top of a bunch of lists.
In response, digital artist BossLogic posted a photoshopped image of the Homelander actor as Wesker, as they called for the casting to be made official. Starr replied: "I agree," but when ComicBook recently asked him "how serious" he is about taking on that role, he quickly back-tracked.
""I don't even know what it is, man... I'm an actor from New Zealand and if people ask you about a job, you go, 'Yeah!' because there's not many jobs in New Zealand," he laughed. "So I'm trained into thinking, 'Someone said... 'you wanna...?' Yeah I want that! What is it?!
"But, yeah, people keep bringing this up, and I think the only thing I have in common is blonde hair, which I've gotten rid of. I think you'll probably need someone younger... I'm 50. That's my way of saying I can't do action." Well, Wesker is canonically 48 years old, but hey, if Starr isn't interested, he isn't interested.
"Phenomenal actor who is the right age and has the look for Wesker but I'd rather see him in a different role," one level-headed fan reacted on Twitter. "It's like asking him to play the same character with shades on."
"I mean, Homelander and Wesker are both extremely merciless, egotistical and have a large superiority complex, So yeah I can kinna see it, you know?" added another hopeful, while a third joked: "Guy who plays one of the most popular unhinged supervillains in recent history doesn't understand why people want him to play another unhinged supervillain."
