Comic book fans are desperate to see Alan Ritchson answer the bat signal in James Gunn’s DC Universe, but as it stands, the Superman director doesn't sound like he's planning to hand over the keys to the Batcave just yet.
Last year, Gunn assured that he was a fan of the Reacher star and advised, "let's just wait and see what happens," saying no more on the matter. Well now, Ritchson is back to stoke the flames of the DC fan-fuelled fire and assure that conversations have definitely been happening regarding his involvement in the cinematic universe. He's just not clarifying what they involve.
During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Ritchson confessed that "James Gunn and I have spoken a lot." Naturally, when host Josh Horowitz probed the star on what chats were had, he seemed bursting at the seams to spill the superhero-themed beans.
"There's so much to unpack here that you don't even know. You don't know what you're asking for," Ritchson said. "I really respect James. I would like to do something with James. James would like to do something with me."
As promising as this might sound, though, the man mountain behind Reacher, which will soon be returning for its fourth season, clarified that there would be some conditions he'd make sure to meet if something ever did happen.
"I know how to develop a project and anything I do with DC will still meet my standards. It'll have to meet my standards. And I hope that we work on something that feels like we're all making this movie that I would be proud of."
Finally, when asked if there was a character in DC’s roster that he had his eye on, Ritchson gave a resounding, "Yes." While not confirming if it was Batman, he teased, "Look, the future is bright, the horizons are broad, and anything is possible for any of us." Mister Mxyzptlk it is, then.
