Emma Thompson jokes another Spider-Man movie will make her hang myself

There’s been a lot of talk about the future of superhero movies of late, with Steven Spielberg recently predicting the genre will eventually go the way of the Western. And according to Emma Thompson, that wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing.

“I loved the original Superman with Chris Reeve because there was a real tongue-in-cheek-ness to it,” said Thompson in an interview with Vulture. “After a while, you do get a tiny bit cynical about it. The fact that I know they’re going to win out in the end has now slightly interfered with my continuing to go to those movies.”

“If I see yet another Spider-Man, I’m going to have to actually hang myself. I can’t do it any more! They’re all marvellous, but how many times can you make this franchise, for crying out loud?”

With a second Spidey reboot on the way, she certainly has a point, although there is one spandex suit she’s looking forward to seeing on the big screen: “I’m up for Wonder Woman, totally.” She’ll have to wait a little while for that one, with Gal Gadot’s first solo movie set to land on June 23, 2017.
