Ben Affleck, star of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, has admitted there's a "ton of pressure" for the DC film to succeed, with expectations already at critical levels.
Speaking to Variety, the actor who plays the Dark Knight was refreshingly honest about the pressures of making a really great movie: “I mean I would be bulls***ting you to say there isn’t.” Yet the Gone Girl actor has confidence in the project, believing the success of Batman V Superman will open up the way for Warner Bros. and the DC universe on the big screen.
“You’ll see next year they are going to have a great year," Affleck insists. "They are now developing... probably the single greatest under-exploited IP asset in the entertainment business, the DC comic world. And now they have started to exploit that and you are going to see that blossom. And, when it does, it’s going to be massive.”
The Oscar-winning director went on to say what a pleasure it has been working with Warner CEO Kevin Tsujihara too, describing him as extremely dedicated with "the intelligence of his notes, and the fact that he cared." It seems that the big wigs at Warner are taking the upcoming Bats and Supes bust-up rather seriously, and there's every reason to. If the film's critically lauded, there's every chance this can smash the $1 billion threshold at the box office, as well as firmly establish DC on a superhero scene that's been dominated by Marvel for the past decade.
Directed by Zack Snyder and starring Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Jason Momoa, Gal Godot and Jesse Eisenberg, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is in UK and US cinemas on March 25, 2016.
