SOMA, from the Amnesia: The Dark Descent devs, hits PC and PS4 in September

The next horror game from the creators of Amnesia: The Dark Descent is coming to PC and PS4 on September 22. Developer Frictional Games announced the release date for SOMA along with a new 12-minute gameplay video pulled from the PS4 version.

You may want to give the video a pass if you're already 100-percent sold on the Dark Descent devs skittering over to sci-fi horror. It takes place about an hour into the game, hinting at how SOMA will approach some central themes of identity and consciousness, and it naturally gives away a few scares. Still, if prior work is any indication, there will be plenty more.

A combination of genuine fear and distaste for managing lantern oil kept me from ever getting too far in The Dark Descent, but I love mind-bending sci-fi horror too much to let SOMA pass by. Hopefully more loyal fans of Frictional's previous work will find the five-year wait worth it.
