Platinum Games Anarchy Reigns release delayed until early July

Platinum Games got some new admirers (and a few enemies) when it was revealed this weekend the team was developing Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, but we’ve been fans for years. Since the dev formed from the ashes of Capcom closing its Clover studio, we’ve truly enjoyed crazy titles like Bayonetta, Vanquish, and MadWorld. It seemed like we’d be getting Platinum’s first sequel next month, but the word has come down that the wild Anarchy Reigns has suffered a sizeable delay.

A pseudo-sequel to underplayed Wii gorefest MadWorld, Anarchy Reigns will bring protagonist Jack (along with other MadWorld chums) into the full color HD world of 360/PS3 as an online co-op brawler. It looked appropriately fun and bizarre, but with just weeks to go before the planned launch, publisher Sega decided it needed a little more time in the oven. Sega’s reasons for pushing it from January were vague, though representatives mentioned that the team needed a little more time to deal with the scale of the project, though we’re scared to see just how much crazier they can make it.

Anarchy Reigns now hits US stores July 3, 2012 and Europe July 5.
