New trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness arrives online: watch now

The new, full-length teaser for Star Trek Into Darkness has arrived online, with J.J. Abrams managing to keep things cryptic despite the two-minute running time.

The new trailer begins with a voiceover, possibly from Bruce Greenwood's Captain Pike, berating Kirk for a cockiness that will lead he and his crew into great peril. And from the looks of the carnage that follows, he may not be far wrong.

Then there's another interjection from Cumberbatch, as he poses the question, "Is there anything you would not do for your family?" Sounds as though Kirk is going to be pushed to his limits this time around…

It could be a mere tease, but is Abrams hinting at a Wrath Of Khan connection with this new footage ? For starters, Cumberbatch's aforementioned dialogue is a direct quote from that film, while we also get a glimpse of that familiar hand-meeting imagery.

Then there's the fact that Alice Eve's character, Carol Marcus, is another who appeared in Wrath Of Khan . Is Abrams just toying with us, or is the villain's identity still up for debate? We'll have to wait and see…

Co-starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana, Star Trek Into Darkness opens in the UK on 17 May 2013.
