J.J. Abrams teases IMAX filming on Star Wars: Episode VII

J.J. Abrams has tweeted a new image from the set of Star Wars: Episode VII , teasing a glimpse of an IMAX camera against a sandy backdrop.

The image is accompanied by the hashtag #bestformatever and seems to be a clear indication that at least part of the new film will be shot using the camera.

The shot appears to have been taken during location filming in Abu Dhabi, where the desert was doubling as Tatooine, although whether the camera has been used elsewhere remains to be seen.

Abrams has been a fan of IMAX filming in the past, having implemented it on a good few scenes in Star Trek: Into Darkness . Needless to say, we can’t wait to see what he has up his sleeve for it here.

Directed by Abrams and co-starring Adam Driver, Lupita Nyong’o and Harrison Ford, Star Wars: Episode VII will open in the UK on 18 December 2015.
