Star Wars: The Last Jedi star Oscar Isaac has been talking about the time he spent on the movie with the late, great Carrie Fisher. Apparently the star spent a lot of it being slapped by the actress. Like, a lot of slapping.
Speaking on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Isaac says, "a large amount of the stuff that I got to do was with Carrie, which was amazing." His first day of shooting involved a scene between Isaac's character Poe Dameron and Carrie Fisher when Princess Leia was, he says, "very upset with me."
Upset enough to slap the Rebellion pilot and, as Isaac explains, "often that first day everyone’s trying to get the tone and figure it out" which meant the slap scene was redone numerous times ("Ryan Johnson kept doing it over and over," says Isaac). The net result? "It ended up being 27 takes of Carrie just leaning in," explaining Isaac, adding "and every time she’d hit a different spot on my face."
Despite all the hitting, Isaac concludes that "she was by far one of the quickest witted, funniest, most down to Earth, real human beings I ever had the pleasure to work with."

Following the actress' tragic death Disney issued a statement to say that her appearance in The Last Jedi would be unaffected, as she'd completed all her scenes. However, what will happen with the following, final instalment remains to be seen as Leia reportedly had a large role in Star Wars 10.
