Win Scott Pilgrim vs. The World on Blu-ray, a signed soundtrack, and more

Many of you noticed how smitten GamesRadar was over when Scott Pilgrim vs. The World hit theaters last August. No regrets there. Edgar Wright’s tale of youth in combat won us over a billion percent, and we’re giving those of you who first embraced the film a first crack at winning some kickass caboodle in honor of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World hitting Blu-ray and DVD tomorrow.

GRAND PRIZE: 1 Scott Pligrim vs The World Blu-ray, 1 Collectible Scott Pilgrim Backstage Pass, and 1 Scott Pilgrim vs. The World Original Soundtrack signed by Julie! (Parks and Recreation’s Aubrey Plaza!)

TO WIN: Name a specific game referenced in the Scott Pilgrim vs. The World movie in the comments below

That’s it! Please be as specific as possible: The moment in the movie and the title of the game it’s referencing.  But we’re not just rewarding people who’ve seen the movie. FOUR RUNNER UP PRIZE PACKS, including 1 Blu-Ray and 1 Backstage Pass, will also be up for grabs, and we’ll be publishing a cheat sheet in the form of an article all about Scott Pilgrim’s game references tomorrow.

Above: Sorta like this, although not this

We’ll select a Grand Prize Winner within the next 24 hours, and randomly select Runner Up winners after that. “Bonus” points for those who call out any reference and cameos we miss!

Contest ends Sunday November 14th and the prizes are valued at between $40 and $50. You must be over 13 and a North American resident to enter. Winners will be notified via a PM on their GamesRadar profile and the first to respond with a valid NAME AND MAILING ADDRESS will be shipped the prizes.

I don't really want this because Michael Cera was a terrible choice for the protagonist. Chris thought Blizzard from Primal Rage inspired that dumb yeti thing. I wouldn't know; I didn't watch it.

The band "Clash At Demonhead" is obviously named after the awesome game of the same title. Just to add to that, Bang, protagonist, has a cameo in the game.

There is a Street Fighter 2 reference when Scott and the Second Evil Ex are running at each other. When the Ex kicks Scott in the air it makes the same sound effect as when you kick someone in the air and Knock them out.

I enjoy the reference of Starcrafts "Im waitin on you" Kerrigan quote givven to Ramona Flowers. That and the "Cool story bro"-esqe reply from Kim.

The Namco machines in the back of the arcade where Scott took Knives on a date.

well, theres the ddr reference with the arcade game that knives and scott played, and then theres the many zelda references such as the scene in which brett remembers where scott follows ramona down a high school hall, and im not sure if this is correct but the part where Lucas Lee grinds down the rail at 100 mph might be a tony hawk reference. Oh and the street fighter references in the fights with the announcer saying KO. Well, thats all i could think of specifically of the top of my head without any wikipedia pages or google searches.

Near the end, when Knives kicks Gideon in the face while holding his legs references Namco's Urban Reign, as that is one of the grappling moves of the "Mighty" class of characters.

When Lucas Lee bailed at the bottom of the rail, he blew up much like a car in the Wipeout series (the speed he was travelling seems to back that up). When Scott gets his 1-Up, a sound from Continue screen of Street Fighter II plays. Knives at the end of the movie has the same haircut and clothing as Faith from Mirror's Edge. In his fight against Gideon's mooks, it is clearly a No More Heroes reference based on how the coins explode upon each of the deaths, as it is wholly different than the River City Ransom style of coin dispersal. The pull back from the band to the couch before title roll is a reference to the GH/Rock Band games. When Knives and Scott beat Gideon, it is "Perfect" like many fighting games.

The level ups when Scott fights Gideon at the end are a reference to every RPG ever made.
  • FaIconPaunch - November 13, 2010 4:42 a.m.

Ima through some more references in the ring here. Lemmesee, there's the NO skull on the Clash At Demonhead's drum that appears in the game of he same name when you shot a friendly character, there's the Sonic sounds when Scott "gets it", theres the Gideon logo/triforce similarity. Maybe that'll give me a better shot.

WIth 25 pages of comments I can almost guarantee this has been said. But whatever. Zelda file select music plays during the hallway scene and it is beautiful. I love this movie.
  • rafa_slash - November 13, 2010 3:16 a.m.

In the fight against the First Evil Ex-boyfriend, Scott connects a 64 hit combo (N64). Could be just random, but its seems like too much of a coincidence.
  • Dvsshark - November 13, 2010 1:11 a.m.

I now these might be wrong as hell but Gideon's sword looks just like Yoshimitsu's from tekken

The Street Fighter Alpha 3 announcer.
