Sony: "Used games can play on PS4"

Shuhei Yoshida, boss of Sony Worldwide Studios, has gone on-record to confirm that PS4 will be able to play used games. Speaking to Eurogamer, he said: "That's the general expectation by consumers. They purchase physical form, they want to use it everywhere, right? So that's my expectation."

When pushed for an exact answer to the question: "So if someone buys a PlayStation 4 game, you're not going to stop them reselling it?", Yoshida replied (after consulting with his PR advisor):

"So, used games can play on PS4. How is that?"

That clears up one question from our list of 15 PlayStation 4 questions that remain unanswered.

used games

Honestly, even though MOST (roughly 80%) of my games are digital or new in the store, any future dedicated gaming system, that isn't my PC, that has the functionality to block used games is going to be ignored by me and a non-purchase for me. Used games are not holding the industry back. Shit games are holding the industry back. Badly written ones are holding the industry back. Over-priced games with little to no extended content are holding the industry back. Buying Silent Hill 3 on the PS2 because it is literally impossible to find physically is not holding the industry back. Why is buying a used TV, movie car, microwave or book not frowned upon while doing so with games are? Because this is a relatively new medium for one, and because for all of those examples, their industries adjusted to demand by lowering prices or recouping their costs through other means.

I really hope he meant it and not "yeah you could play used games, but you have to pay a small fee". Fingers crossed..

Excellent. Good to have a definitive statement. This should also help make sure Microsoft does the same thing. No one will want to be the only one who doesn't allow used games.

Good on ya, Sony! Now answer how I'm supposed to play my current PS3 games without having to accommodate two whole systems,

There was never a doubt to me. Companies patent things and then the media/fanboys blows it out of proportion.

Exactly. I drop $120 (NZ) on a game, it should work when I take it to my buddies place.
