Skyrim Dawnguard DLC pack coming this summer, reveal at E3

This image essentially sums up all that we know about Dawnguard. Soak it in. It's all you're getting until E3 rolls around next month. Well, that's not exactly true. We do know a few things, but none of them have been confirmed by Bethesda.

Last week, a user took a special peek into the latest patch's source code and found a few hints about what the next DLC pack might include. In a file marked "DLC01" he found references to "snow elves" as well as a "Snow Elf Prince" and crossbows.

It's been interesting to watch how Bethesda has handled this DLC announcement. They're doling out the tidbits piecemeal, and are plotting a major reveal at E3 2012. All of which suggests to us that this is going to be a pretty giant DLC pack in line with the Shivering Isles expansion for Oblivion.

With huge sales for Skyrim and 8 months to work on this DLC, we're expecting big things from Bethesda.

This should be very interesting. A lot of questions are raised though. The name Dawnguard seems a little generic though. Both words are used a lot in the series but I guess we'll have to see how it plays out. Something to do with the Snow Prince and snow elves should be really cool, a lot of lore from that came from the Morrowind expansion Bloodmoon and crossbows would be awesome to see come back.

I cant wait, if they can pull off something as impressive as the shivering isles, or possibly even more, I will be a very happy man.

The Snow Elves are actually the Falmer, those blind elves. The Dwemer enslaved them and turned them into what you fight in the ruins and caves. I know tons of Elder Scrolls fans have been waiting for crossbows. Definitely want to see how they get implemented.

Are you mad or just stupid? It say nothing about the dlc being exclusive to xbox and comparing an iphone/ipad to a console is insane considering they're overall technical goals/capabilities are completely different (even though there are some impressive games such as infinity sword etc.) And last but not least have you ever seen a pc play a game on full specks?? I don't condemn the xbox, it's a very good machine for what it does but thinking it's superior to everything else is just wrong..

He's mad and stupid... and also trolling you.

I was starting to wonder when we'd hear something official from Bethesda - I already knew about the revealed source code (more excited about there being crossbows than I probably should be). Hopefully we'll see a trailer or something come E3.

    Bethesda, such a tease.

They better do this with the next fallout, as in make a giant DLC. I like the little ones, but even just one large one accompanied by a few smaller ones would be great.

Sweet! Always loved Elder Scrolls DLC (apart from dreaded hose armour, though). This should be good! Hope it takes us away from constant snowy environments though.

    *cannot contain excitement*

I hope to god this IS as expansive as Shivering Isles. i mean, I might actually need to DELETE Shivering Isles from my Xbox Hard Drive to fit this on, but it'd be totally worth it. Shivering Isles was everything DLC should be and more. Bethesda may not have a great track record for bugs, but as far as DLC goes, they do manage to come out with some pretty damn great stuff. I mean, look at Point Lookout and Old World Blues from Fallout 3 and New Vegas respectively.
  • BackwaterRifle - May 1, 2012 2:59 p.m.

Both great examples of what smaller DLC's should be.
  • Longnuts - May 1, 2012 1:09 p.m.

Will only buy AFTER the patch that comes after the DLC release.
  • ObliqueZombie - May 1, 2012 1:16 p.m.

I'm sure with the publicized shitstorm they brewed over the PS3 framerate bug (and various others) with their highest-rated game, this one may be ironed out enough to, you know, be playable. But that's just hoping.
  • ObliqueZombie - May 1, 2012 12:56 p.m.

I'm excited! The Dawnguard were the ones who opened the Oblivion gates, yeah? It's been a while. Also, when's E3?
  • thatnerdguy1 - May 1, 2012 1:12 p.m.
