Scott Pilgrim vs. The World film trailer looks super promising

A new (real) Scott Pilgrim vs. The World trailer was released today, and though we were previously skeptical, it captivated us. If you're not familiar with the graphic novels, they follow the misadventures of Scott Pilgrim, a clueless slacker/bassist who must defeat the "seven evil exes" of the girl he loves before he can date her. True to the series, the trailer is packed with videogame references - something director Edgar Wright, who previously directed Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead, is fully experienced with.

UPDATE: NBC Universal apparently doesn't want you to see the film's trailer, so they removed it from YouTube. You'll have to go here to see it.

While we're still not entirely sold on Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim (our initial reaction was that he's too... "Michael Cera" for the role), we're willing to see what he brings. Keegster13, one of our Internet Friends on Twitter, was an extra on the film, and told us that Cera "did it pretty well." He also told us that Cera almost hit him with his car, which is unrelated and irrelevant but pretty cool. And yes, our source on this is Twitter - deal with it.

Bonus! Michael Cera on Zach Galifianakis' always-absurdly-hilarious Between Two Ferns:

If you haven't read the Scott Pilgrim series, the books come highly recommended from the GamesRadar staff. Also look forward to Ubisoft  Montreal's game based on the series, which will be released alongside the film (August 13th). Let's hope it doesn't suck.

What are your thoughts on the trailer?

That trailer made me want to do what all those directors of book/comic/game film adaptations, say they hope to make us to do. Which is go check out the original source material. Wow, that sounded long-winded and dumb. Basically I'm just gonna go read the comic now. And I'll see the film when it comes out, fo sho.

That actually looks awesome, despite the fact that Cera's the lead role. It even seems like he's going to break out of his usual mold for this one, especially if the fight scenes are gonna be as good as they look. The characters all look accurate to the book versions, and I love the onomatopoeia that pops up when he gets hit. I personally can't wait.

Trailer is awesome. And I could not stop laughing at the bonus video!
  • GamesRadarTylerWilde - March 25, 2010 8:59 p.m.

    @Kapwan Agreed on both points.
  • Kapwan - March 25, 2010 8:35 p.m.

I do love Scott Pilgram. I just hope we see Michael Cera play Scott Pilgrim and not the standard Michael Cera man child we see him play in every movie.
  • MediocreDinosaur - March 25, 2010 8:34 p.m.

Wow. I'd never seen nor heard of this comic or movie. And now I wanna see and read both. Looks awesome.

As a big fan of all of Edgar Wright's work, I'm sure this won't disappoint. The trailer sufficiently blew me up, definitely very excited for the film now.

Had to remove the YouTube video because NBC decided it didn't want more people seeing its trailer. There's now a link to the Apple site where you can watch it.

  • BlackElement17 - March 25, 2010 7:29 p.m.

Same opinion as Orion, looks like No more heroes the movie. But that would be something I want to see.
  • michaelmcc827 - March 25, 2010 7:27 p.m.

Quick, fix the vid! NBC claimed copyrights on it...
  • beezn - March 25, 2010 7:23 p.m.

I like what I'm seeing, it's odd though to see Cera move that quickly or show that much stress... @Tygerclaws how have you not heard of Michael Cera? Are you Amish?
  • Aeshir - March 25, 2010 7:14 p.m.

Great Mister Christie's Crackers! All five of my alien spase genitalia are on this being the Best Thing Ever.
  • Tygerclaws - March 25, 2010 7:12 p.m.

As someone who has never even heard of this series, or Michael Cera...I have to say that this looks pretty damn interesting.
  • Orion456 - March 25, 2010 7:08 p.m.

This looks like the closest thing to a No More Heroes film we're going to get. Awesome
