Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D revealed for 3DS. First screens of Jill, Chris, Hunk, zombies etc

Mercs missions from Resi 4 and 5 repackaged for Nintendo's new handheld

A new Resident Evil game has been announced for Nintendo's new handheld, 3DS. Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D features missions from the killing-against-the-clock Mercenaries mode from Resi 4 and Resi 5.

So not entirely new, although there will be some original modes and different characters that will hopefully keep things fresh. There will also be the ability for some Wi-Fi enabled co-op culling. Oh, and it'll be portable and in 3D, of course.

No more details so far (nothing on release date, price etc), but there are these screens:

I have to admit that this doesn't get me as pumped as the previously announced 3DS Resi game, Resident Evil: Revelations, but still... the Mercs mode in Resi 4 kept me hooked (Resi 5's not so much), so as long as it feels like it warrants a full release - as opposed to something that could've been an extra with Revelations - then count me in.

I feel like The Mercenaries mode's arcade-style gameplay is ideal for a handheld gaming system. Will be great for RE action in short bursts on the go.

Did I just see a black zombie? Is this game gonna have to get altered too for being accused of racism?

Really they put HUNK in the 3DS game but not in 5. RE5 would be so much better if he were in mercenaries. They didnt even put him in the download. That is some garbage. I hope they make a better Resident evil game with real zombies, the ability to move and shoot and #1 is to have HUNK in the game even if it is just mercenaries. HUNK is #1.

Those screenshots look like mercanaries levels from Resi 5's mercenaries mode, which I've played to death already. New levels please?

Ugh, another not so scary, action heavy Resident Evil. At least i won't need to save money for it.

Shame that the Merc mode is a separate game rather than a mode included in Revelations. I like the Merc mode but I probably wouldn't buy it as a stand alone product.
