New Twisted Metal trailer reintroduces Mr Grimm and is charmingly 90s

Around here we love the 90s even more that VH1, and this continued rebooting of the biggest series from that decade has us thrilled for the coming year. Following this year’s Mortal Kombat, we’ve got Tomb Raider, XCOM and Syndicate to look forward to, and on Valentine’s Day there’s Twisted Metal. In case you forgot what made special, this new trailer sums it up with perfect musical accompaniment.

We have to believe that the use of Rob Zombie’s Dragula has to be purposefully ironic, as that song seemed to appear in every game from 1998 to 2004 (including Twisted Metal 4!), but it sets the mood perfectly. Twisted Metal is proud to not take itself seriously, and that includes lovingly ridiculous characters like Mr. Grimm with their flaming chainsaws. Twisted Metal finally returns to Sony systems when it hits PS3 February 14.

I might be in the minority, but I really think TM: Black was my favourite one because of the dark, gritty stories. I liked the PS1 Twisted Metal games, don't get me wrong, but I feel as though Black really found itself and became what Twisted Metal was trying to be. Having said that, as long as this new TM has the awesome fun that it looks to so easily conjure, I won't complain.

Nice. Hopefully it'll turn out good.

that trailer IS charmingly 90's. and i'll be honest, i can't actually tell if it's supposed to be ironic, or if it's a sign that the game makers don't know what players like anymore so they're just rehashing what has worked in the past. maybe because the game makers now were the game players in the 90s, when this stuff was "cool"? or if they are just out of touch, and think this is still awesome. i'm most troubled by the fact that we live in such irony heavy times, that i can't tell what's sincere and what's not. the end result is, i just walk away. i've become neutral to the whole thing. and that scares me a little.

Gray Fox on a motorbike. Recognize that voice anywhere.

My god, twisted metal 4 was like THE game of games that got me into gaming...I was raised on TM4. Rent a ps1 from blockbuster for the weekend with my bro, and blow up cars ALL day long :D Such sweet memories :p

Sorry, but Roadkill took it all. Grimm was hard as fuck, but just doesn't hold a flaming chainsaw to Roadkill. Word. Who remembers shooting the statue of liberty to see her in a bikini haha?

I know I'm getting this when it comes out, but is Axel really pre-order only? 'Cause that would suck, big time. Still, Mr. Grimm was always my favorite, so I guess I'd get over it.

One of the first trailers I've seen that brings back that classic game feeling. We didn't need army grit, beauty and shine, a Move, a Kinect, a Wii remote... all we need is some hardcore balls out insanity with fun destructive environments. I can see a must buy in the near future...

Huh. Reintroduced as a Daredevil who's life went wrong. Also Jamacian looking. Spose it could work. However I liked my actual Grim Reaper who's out to kill calypso more. Oh well, I'm just glad we're getting TM4 at all!

Yet another game I'll miss because I don't have a PS3. I really need to change that at some point.
