Modern Warfare 3 officially confirmed with trailer (UPDATED with three more trailers)

What a day, huh? We began with the giant leak of very credible rumors surrounding the unannounced third game in the Modern Warfare series. Representatives for Call of Duty’s publisher Activision were quiet for most of the day, but it looks like they decided that if it was front page news anyway, they may as well announce Modern Warfare 3 now instead of waiting any longer. So here’s the official reveal trailer:

This trailer at least confirms the reports of the game’s story taking place in America, New York City to be exact. Whether the rest of it turns out to be true, including a planned November 8 release date, remains to be seen. But at least we can start our weekend safe in the knowledge that a sequel really is being made to one of the best-selling games of all time. Guess we better start the line at Gamestop tonight.

UPDATE: Activision kept the hits coming with two more trailers featuring a couple additional battlegrounds, Germany, England, and France.

This is a bad strategy. Releasing Call Of Duty's every year could mean that the excitement will get less and less ethusiastic until it becomes just "meh". It's called oversaturation.

I've never been a Call of Duty fan, the modern setting doesn't appeal to me. But this is interesting, I like the apocalyptic world war idea. Might try this one out

Not gonna lie, I've bought just about every call of duty game for the past 6 years, but last few iterations have gotten a bit stale, both in terms of campaign and multiplayer. I really hope for this one, they take a good look at what made COD4 so sweet and take it to the next level (hopefully with some real game play innovation). Not buying this day 1 like I normally do, I'll wait it out, see how it looks.

@435: Wall of Duty? More like Wall of Doodie, amirite? (I'm so sorry)
  • freddyqaqualung - May 16, 2011 2:43 a.m.

I'm not hot on CoD right now, but I'll probably buy this after there's a price drop, no avoiding that.
  • Limbo - May 16, 2011 2:38 a.m.

Call of Duty really gets on my nerves but I still like it. The games made by Treyarch that I've played (WaW and Blops) seem lower quality all around (especially Nazi Zombies, it's so much fun but has so many problems) and could have been much better. The games made by Infinity Ward that I've played (MW and MW2) are amazing but the multiplayer is a little unbalanced in my opinion (F*CK noob tubes and shotguns). It's quite the love/hate relationship. Regardless, I'll definitely be getting this at some point.
  • RedOutlive10 - May 15, 2011 8:57 p.m.

Hard to feel excited after Call of Duty went downhill since the first Modern Wafare, but hey the sheep will still buy.
  • Stinkfingur - May 15, 2011 6:13 p.m.

DICE + Battlefield series = Multiplayer>Anything Call of Duty has ever done.

@e1337prodigy i totally agree with you. these trailers did NOTHING for me. everyone knew MW3 was coming out (because of the COD "madden style" releases.) at least with the Battlefield 3 trailer, there was fucking gameplay. not some bullshit radio chatter. locations of where everything doesnt matter. i would like to see the updated engine, smoother gameplay, better host migration, (zombies anyone?), different guns, and no noob tubes, no nukes (just because you get a 25 kill streak that doesnt mean you should be able to just end the game) unfortunately, we all know those are going to be in the game since they are a staple of modern combat. in comparison to BF3, i am still probably going to get both, but BF3 already looks to have made massive strides in the FPS genre to be the next big juggernaut. i hope they dont sell out and make a new BF game every year like COD, GH (even more than one in a year), and madden. captcha: ketedshi hoeres, ??

@Ubernoob - You know COD was originally a PC game that came to consoles right? Thought that was general knowledge so I'll just chalk that up to a typo. You know, because no one is that dumb.

FRANC3, AM3RICA, 3NGLAND, G3RMANY. If there is anything to take away from this, it's that only countries containing the letter "e" are prone to invasion.

wow looks like city im assuming to be Berlin gets the shit ripped out of it.
  • 435 - May 15, 2011 11:12 a.m.

I've really hit the Wall of Duty with CoD.
  • avantguardian - May 15, 2011 7:54 a.m.

also @MrSinister: no offense dude, but ugh. there are too many things wrong with your comment to adequately sum it up, but i'll try : GENERALIZATIONS have a large hand in being "responsible for dumbing down an entire generation of" PEOPLE.
  • avantguardian - May 15, 2011 7:45 a.m.

@everyone saying rational things concerning the endless CoD flaming (particularly in regards to its relationship/"competition" w/ the battlefield series, THANK YOU. from the bottom of my heart. this piling on things because that's what people do, because we're all innately assholes, needs to STOP. BF and CoD are FUN games, and really the only two games i play online. apples and oranges. both delicious, both fruit. (p.s. sorry about the caps, but, yeah, emphasis)
  • mackshizzle - May 15, 2011 5:40 a.m.

I can't seem to find the appeal of shooters.
  • TheIronMaiden - May 15, 2011 4:01 a.m.

These trailers sucked compared to the "this is my life" series battlefield 3 had going. All I saw were a bunch of green "nvg" style lines that took place in different parts of the world. Give us something new Activision! The core gamers are sick of the repetition, however something tells me the majority of gamers aren't and the game will still sell 10 million copies. : /
  • ThatGuyFromTV - May 15, 2011 3:31 a.m.

I like both CoD and BF and chances are when MW3 and BF3 get released I'm going to buy both of them. Just because I like one doesn't mean I hate the shit out of the other. You know why CoD is still around? BECAUSE IT'S STILL GOOD. SAME REASON WITH BATTLEFIELD. I play all kinds of shooters. Gears, Crysis 2, Halo, Red Dead... I play them all because I like variation when I shoot people in the face, but mostly I LIKE SHOOTING PEOPLE IN THE (not in real life) FACE. How about we all agree that we like to do that and move on. Though in all respect, someone please shoot Kotick in the (hopefully real) face. /rant
