Kingdom Hearts HD collection announced for PS3

Another thing to play while waiting for Kingdom Hearts 3

Tokyo Game Show is open for business, showing dozens of Japan's newest games to the thousands of attendees. Today at the Square Enix booth the company had a big reveal for the Kingdom Hearts series. Sorry, it wasn't Kingdom Hearts 3. Instead, it's an HD collection of three KH titles in a package called Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX.

Announced for the PS3, the package includes HD remakes of the first Kingdom Hearts and RE: Chain of Memories, alongside HD cutscenes taken from 358/2 Days. It's planned for a 2013 release in Japan, but no US or UK release plans have been revealed yet. If you're in need of some background on the KH games, read our Kingdom Hearts history feature

I've never managed to get all the way through KH1, but maybe this will give me more of an incentive to finish it.

Bugger- I would've thought it'd at least be 1 and 2 Final Mix, and then Re: Chain of Memories, which I could get on board with, but since I've already got both 1 and 2 and a PS3 that is backwards compatible, along with 358/2 days on DS, it seems a bit much just to get Re: Chain of Memories.

Even though I learned about this yesterday, I'm still freaking excited that we are finally getting a current-gen version of KH on a console. Even if I have to wait forever for a US release, I'm still happy such a thing even exists! I'll be getting this day one whenever it rolls on down to North America.

I would've expected the first 2 KH games at least. It would also be a great excuse for Japan to finaly give us the Final Mix content they've been hoging all this time. I WANT TO FIGHT THE LINGERING SENTIMENT!!!

Not getting this unless it comes to Wii U too. Nintendo needs to do some negotiating. There are fans on both sides. Why make KH on Nintendo platforms if you aren't going to bring the main games to the their head platform? I was only hoping to need my PS3 for the Final Fantasy X remake... although I'd like that on Wii U as well Lol, the sphere grid on the touch screen is the perfect fit!

I can see them releasing a second packaging with the rest of the KH games, but this is stellar news! I had the original Kingdom Hearts as a kid--it was my first PS2 game--but I never could play the damn thing because I thought it was too complicated (which it was, for my young self). I thoroughly regret trading that game for, what, a Digimon toy? Can't wait to finally delve into.

I played it as a 9 year old but only because it was my grandpa's game and he buys strategy guides. You really will enjoy it though

Seems a bit of a poor HD 'collection' Its basically 2 versions of 1 games (Seeing as Chain of Memories mostly repeats the KH1 story, while throwing in a few rouge-members of ORG-13) And surely the 358/2 days content would be better suited to go alongside KH2, as that was focused heavily on organisation 13... I would have prefered to see KH1 and KH2:Remix dont in HD, along with a port of Birth by sleep, then maybe having some bonus content in there that covers the events between the games that are seens in the other hand-held titles.

Agreed. Chain of Memories however plays a pivotal role to the story (even if it only is ONE thing, the ending. The only other thing it does is introduce Organization members and kill most of them off. Other than that it's completely forgettable in terms of gameplay and story. Never dug the card system.) If anything, it should've been BBS then 1. CoM then 358/2. Then KH2 and DDD. Throw Coded in somewhere. Because asking for at the very least the games before they went haywire with the portables in one bundle is asking for too much.

Wait, so it's only KH1 and the PS2 remake of CoM with some random DS cutscenes sprinkled in? Geez, this is the worst HD collection since the abomination of a Silent Hill one. They should at least have the decency to put Kingdom Hearts II on here. I mean, I know we can't exactly have the DS games on here for obvious reasons and I don't know enough about PSP games being ported to a PS3 to be able to say Birth By Sleep should be on here, but two games and some cutscenes is NOT a collection.

Plenty HD collections have 2 games and a bonus, Both God of War collections had only 2 games, the Silent Hill collection had only 2 games, the Ico & Shadow of the Collection had only 2 games and the Zone of The Enders Collection is you guessed it 2 games, since you are complaining 2 games isn't a collection it wouldn't have mattered if 2 was there instead of CoM, and lastly you should be happy we are getting this because if its released in the U.S. as it is now we will finally get Kingdom Hearts Final Mix which is worth the cost alone, so its better not to complain about what you don't have and be thankful for what you do. Also they are most likely we will get the FM of both 2 and BBS in the second set of the collection because they are mostly likely prolonging the release of the collections to be place holders until KH3 is out which is a nice thing to do since the darn thing isn't even started or going to be announced anytime soon because it will be started after Versus is done.

I assume there'll be a 2.5 as well, with Kingdom Hearts II and Birth by Sleep (and cutscenes for KH3D and Coded). Whoever comes up with the titles for these games needs his head checked by the way.

Hopefully, it would be the KH2 Remix they did for japan, which included a bunch of bonus boss battles against the missing members of ORG-XIII and a Dual-Keyblade weilding Roxas.
