ICO novel to be published in English later this year

Not only are ICO fans soon getting an HD upgrade of their favorite game, they're getting a full length novel - Miyuki Miyabe's 2004 novelization of the game will be available in English-speaking countries later this year.

The English title of the book is ICO: Castle of the Mist, and it's being published by Viz Media sometime this summer or fall. Amazon has the release date set for August 16, and is accepting pre-orders.

Miyabe is best known for her novel Brave Story, which became a popular anime and game series, but her ICO novelization is also a common sight at used book stores in Japan.

What the hell? A novel... of a game which proved you can have a beautifully engaging storyline and characters you love with the absolute minimum of the most functional dialogue. This is ridiculous. There should never be a novel of ICO. What would it consist of? "Ico took Yorda's hand. Then they both walked along the path. Then Ico let go of Yorda's hand, and climbed up to a ledge. Then he tried to take Yorda's hand again, to get her up onto the ledge. But she had wandered off."

Never been a playstation man so totally missed ICO. The HD version (+ Last Guardian + Shadow OTC) is going to force a big payout to catch up and partake damnit.

I didn't play the game, but anything with a de Chirico-styled setting is probably worth looking at...
