Making a prequel can be hard, but making a Star Wars sequel prequel spin-off anthology movie is... something else. Luckily, Gareth Edwards was more than up to the task with Star Wars: Rogue One.
We already know that Rogue One ends 10 minutes before the start of A New Hope, but given its close proximity timeline-wise, how has Edwards managed to fit it around the original 1977 Star Wars movie? We've analysed the source material for Rogue One - Episode 4's opening crawl - to try and find out.
Directed by Gareth Edwards and starring Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Forest Whitaker, and Mads Mikkelsen, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is released in the UK on December 15 and the US on December 16.
