GoldenEye 007 Wii and DS remake leaked

It's unofficial - Activision is publishing a GoldenEye 007 remake for the Wii and DS, possibly. A leaked survey with box art designs and concepts for a custom golden controller and golden gun Wiimote-holder-thingy were sent in to GoNintendo last week.

The survey states that the remake will feature Daniel Craig's likeness, all of the classic levels and weapons, four-player split-screen multiplayer, and eight-player online matches.

Eurogamer reported Friday that the games will be released this November, and that Activision intends to unveil them at E3 this month. The site doesn't reveal its source, however, and states that Activision did not comment, so the details are unconfirmed. If the information is legit, we'll see the game next week - c'mon Kotick!

Above: Is this what the box'll look like?

Assuming it's all for reals, we don't exactly know what to think. We've wanted this for years, but now that it's coming, we're a bundle of nerves. Complaining that it's on the Wii may be beating a dead B. Buttercup, but what can we say? We're a little disappointed that the alleged remake of one of our favorite games will be presented in glorious SD, and with crippled online multiplayer (though our fond memories of GoldenEye split-screen temper our dissatisfaction). And that aside, can Rare's achievement actually be repeated well enough to make us want to play a new version?

We can at least be confident that the original control scheme will be emulated with the Classic Controller Pro, given the supposed existence of a gold version:

Follow our E3 coverage next week, and if Activision makes an official announcement, we'll race to a laptop to let you know.

I would have preferred Pierce Brosnan, I mean, it's HIS movie and HIS game. I love Daniel Craig, but this is Pierce's thing. Anyhow, I hate the Wii and don't own one, but I'd still like to see this remake, regardless.

@JenosIdanian Have you tried it since the update? They included the option to lock your sight as well as an adjustment slider for the aiming mode. There were some other fixes as well including new control options.

Hopefully the controls for the manual targeting will be better than it was in the XBLA Perfect Dark game. Those controls were impossible to use.

You mean that console no one plays?

I think the Wii is the perfect console for this game. 1. Still being a little behind the times will give it that retro-ish look. 2. Compatibility with Metroid Prime/Conduit style 'point and click' aiming system would make things better without really changing anything (FPSs were meant to be played as such. 2 analog sticks just doesn't make sense). 3. Daniel Craig should NOT be Bond. Pierce for originality, but to make it truly good it's gotta be original, Sean Connery. 4. So what if the Wii has lame online. GoldenEye was meant to be played with the split-screen and 3 other people in the room anyway.

I'm no legal expert, so can someone explain to me how this works? I thought releasing Goldeneye was basically impossible due to legal reasons. Do remakes not actually count in this? Or did Microsoft finally fold or something? I never really followed the Goldeneye XBLA story so I have no idea what became of it.

MY GOD, THAT CONTROLLER IS BEAUTIFUL. It reminds me of the gold N64 pads that were released around the time Zelda came out. As for the remake, I hope the can make it into something that isn't Quantum of Solace, but not exactly Goldeneye. Maybe near Nightfire's quality.

If you want some GoldenEye action, there's always the Source mod. http://www.moddb.com/mods/goldeneye-source They've done a fantastic job recreating the feel, levels, and play of GE on the N64.

This makes me so angry. Goldeneye should be a glorious HD XBLA game staring Pierce.

The gun actually looks pretty cool and i hope this is true, maybe we will find out at E3

  • Cyberninja - June 7, 2010 10:05 p.m.

wii needs this game and it needs to be good so that people can STFU about the wii being bad.
  • scottneve - June 7, 2010 9:57 p.m.

It's not GoldenEye without Pierce Brosnan. Also, wasn't there already an HD GoldenEye remake made a couple years ago that they wouldn't release?
  • batmanboy11 - June 7, 2010 9:37 p.m.

If they screw up GoldenEye I will be incredibly pissed.
  • tomthespesh - June 7, 2010 9:27 p.m.

Please be true and hopefully fantastic. Still I'm unsure about the motion control hopefully classic (and gamecube) controllers will supported as the original was pretty much auto aim aside from when you wanted to aim manually.

not the wii! please not the wii!
