It appears that Dragon's Dogma, Capcom's latest new IP, is faring pretty well at retail. Though many considered the title a bit of a risk (being a new IP from a company reknowned for pumping out sequels and HD Remixes,) but it's a risk that appears to have paid off for Capcom, as they announced today that one million copies of Dragon's Dogma have shipped.
While one million units is a big number, it's far from an unqualified success. Especially for a large scale RPG. However, it's not a terrible starting point for a new series.
That quote from Capcom may indicate a small amount of trepidation on their end. They're not trumpeting Dragon's Dogma as the big new series in gaming, as many gaming companies do when they sense they have a hit on their hands. It seems more like Capcom is still testing the waters with further DLC plans before committing to a full sequel.
We rather enjoyed Dragon's Dogma, even if it had more than a few quirks (which are offset by just as many fun, original ideas) so we're hoping Capcom gives the greenlight to a sequel.
Dragon's Dogma launched in North America on May 24 on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.
