Diablo 3 won't have PvP at launch, reveals Blizzard

Here's some good news and bad news for fans eagerly awaiting Diablo III. “We’re counting down the days until we’re ready to announce a release date,” promises lead developer Jay Wilson, and you'll have the single-player game before too long. However, as you may've caught from our careful wording of the above (that being the Good News portion), something's got to give in order to get the game to you in a timely fashion. That something is the game's PvP section.

“We wanted to let you know that we’ve made the difficult decision to hold back the PvP Arena system,” says Wilson in a new blog post, “and release it in a patch following the game’s launch.” While the single-player game sits tantalizingly close to release-readiness, Wilson says his team's “come to realize that the PvP game and systems aren’t yet living up to our standards.” This is Blizzard, remember: high standards are what got you hankering for the title in the first damn place.

“We know a lot of you are looking forward to PvP,” consoles Wilson, “and we’ll be focusing our post-launch efforts on making sure the Arenas are brutal, bloody, fast-paced, and awesome.” To this end, the PvP patch will add a host of themed maps, mode-centric achievements, matchmaking and personalized progression systems. And hey, remember that good news? Diablo III will be getting a release date soon, and you'll be honing your PvP skills in the single-player campaign not long after...

Not much of a PVP guy anyways, so no big deal for me.

So they can charge for it later !

This is Blizzard not Capcom. Highly doubtful that they would charge for it.

I feel like they should just hold it back till they work pvp in, everyone already is used to delays honestly.

Sucks for those that are into it, but really, PvP isn't much of a focus for me personally, so I could care less. Besides, will give time for people to get geared. Don't mind this much, assuming this first patch doesn't take, like, 2-3 months to release or something.

I really don't care about the PvP since it will be many many months before I am equipped well enough to do them. All I care about is the PvE anyway really. But this game has slid so far down on my wanted list. It'll be nice to know when it's gonna launch and I'm sure I'll play it a lot and enjoy it but I'm really just not that excited for it anymore.

honestly since the game is taking forever anyway might as well release it as a whole a month later.

how long do they need 30 years

I don't care all that much about PvP honestly. It sucks that they're not adding every feature in the release game just so they can have a "fixed" release date. Sometimes I wish developers would take their time to make the game "perfect" and "complete" (à la VALVe).
