Dark Souls II PS3 closed beta set for October

What's harder than Dark Souls II? An unpolished beta version of Dark Souls II. You may be able to prove your mastery of misery when the game's closed beta opens on October 5 in North America and Europe, Namco Bandai announced today.

If you want to be selected for the clinical tests, er, early play opportunity, you'd better pay attention to Dark Souls' Facebook page starting on Sept. 5.

What inexplicably compelling terrors await for players who clear the selection process? Take it away, Namco Bandai:

"The depth of the Dark Souls 2 Closed-Beta experience will truly test players’ skill, intestinal fortitude, and their sheer will to survive. The Dark Souls II Closed-Beta will delve into one of the most treacherous areas of the Dark Souls II world; players will not only get an opportunity to explore an entirely new area of the game, but also experience overwhelming enemy encounters, diabolical challenges, and the unrelenting difficulty that only the developers at FromSoftware can deliver."

The full game will be available on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 in March 2014.

"In other news suicides are up this month thanks to a Facebook contest and video games"

The first day of the beta should just have all enemies set to be extremely aggressive and unkillable. The AI enemies should also actively try to farm your respawn point.

Hmmm... getting access to the beta sounds cool, but I'm not sure I want to spoil the excitement and discovery of playing Dark Souls 2 for the first time in its finished form. I may just wait for the retail release. Also, f**k Facebook contests.

    I guess it's finally time to buy a PS3

I was so ready for this up until I read that it's a facebook contest :/ ...Maybe though, would you guys be able to give away beta keys? :D

I hate Facebook contests. How are people who aren't teenage girls, grandparents, or narcissistic twats ever supposed to get in on stuff like this anymore?
  • JMarsella09 - August 21, 2013 2:04 p.m.

    By having no life.
  • db1331 - August 21, 2013 4:12 p.m.

Are you implying that without a facebook account you don't have a life?
  • JMarsella09 - August 22, 2013 9:38 a.m.

No, I apologize if that is what came across. I was making a slightly sarcastic remark on how the people who have the time and commitment to win a Facebook contest are either very young, very old, or have no lives. Be aware that I have won Facebook contests before and so I am insulting myself.

Ahh, my mistake. Reading comprehension fail on my behalf. I'm extremely relieved you don't think that way.

Just barely! Having a baby seriously cramps your gaming style, believe it or not.
