Dark Souls DLC shield design contest offers immortality, free stuff

Namco Bandai has launched a Dark Souls contest challenging players to design shields for inclusion in post-launch DLC for the chance to win exclusive Dark Souls swag and one of three starring roles in the game's credits. We say 'starring', but we expect the winning names will be slotted in somewhere between “Coffee Bitches” and “Personal Toenail Clippers”. But hey, at least it's a foot in the door.

To enter, fans must 'like' the Dark Souls Facebook page, after which they can download a shield design template. Entries are limited to three apiece, and the due date for submissions is Wednesday July 13th. Following the deadline, Namco Bandai will then give fans until July 20th to select their top ten favorites for developer From Software's consideration, which will then hand pick three winners to announce on July 28th.

All top ten finalists will receive a copy of Dark Souls signed by the game's director Hidetaka Miyazaki. The top three winners, however, will be gifted with a signed limited edition Dark Souls copy, see their shields released as future DLC, and have their names included in the game's credits. Here's hoping said credits are accessible from the start, because from what we've seen, actually making it through to the end of Dark Souls is going to be a herculean challenge in and of itself.

I would so totally enter this. except It'd suck to win the competition with my superior art skills, and then be allowed to play the signed copy of the game I won due to the 18 certificate Oh, and I can't draw. that too.

And here was me thinking we might be able to win an 'Easy Mode' DLC for Dark Souls... most deceptive use of the word 'immortality' ever!
