Cannes critics go for Armadillo

Cannes 2010 - The Critics Week's Grand Prize, which is voted upon by international press, was yesterday awarded to Janus Metz's Danish war documentary Armadillo .

The prize marks the closure of the Festival de Cannes Critics' Week sidebar, an unaffiliated section which has a strong track record of showcasing first-time and sophomore directors' efforts.

Armadillo is Metz's first feature-length venture, and follows a group of Danish soldiers fighting against the Taliban in Afghanistan.

This marks the first time a documentary has screened in the Critics' Week section since 1990, the year the sidebar first held its own competition.
