Black Mesa Source, Half-Life mod now available

The creators of the long-awaited Source mod of the original Half-Life have announced that it is finally complete, and ready for public consumption. 

Torrents for the game files have already popped up, and are being ruthlessly bogged down by the hordes of HL fans that are bombarding sites like GameFront with download attempts. 

The mod is called Black Mesa Source, and it reskins the entire original Half-Life game with more modern graphics made in the Source engine. It is also one of the first games to have been approved by the fans in Valve's Steam Greenlight program, meaning it will eventually be available on Steam as well.

There's no word on when that might happen though as the mod isn't technically complete. It doesn't yet cover the very end of the game. We're assuming that the Steam release will come shortly after the full experience is available.

    Sweet Jesus this remake is amazing!! I still really dislike all the jumping puzzles but the rest of the game holds up fine. I wish lazy journalists would stop calling this "incomplete" and "a re-skin". I have read about 3 different articles where they allude to the game still being buggy and not fully playable. It's not. It runs great it is just missing the alien world. Christ, the programmers spent years hammering out this game so we could enjoy it for free. The least journalists could do is take 2 minutes to research it.

    Like others have said, this is not a reskin. It is 100% remade. You can tell this from the very first level, which, while recreating the feel from the original, is laid out more believably, with new areas and new ways of dealing with your early enemies.

    Already got it. Time to play also, "and it reskins the entire original Half-Life game with more modern graphics made in the Source engine." isn't correct. It doesn't "reskin" the entire game, it's completely rebuilt from the ground up. Literally. It's ENTIRELY re-made using the new source engine. All content is completely new. It's a re-make, not an HD Re-release.

    It's Gamesradar, I only clicked it because I usually read all of their stuff. I went to their home page and "open in other tab"'ed everything to do with the Wii U and must of hit this one too. I cared enough to wish fun upon you all! Then I cared again when I noticed someone replied. All I really want from Valve is a Left4Dead collection for the Wii U Lol

    "Left4Dead collection for the Wii U" I know those words but that sentence doesn't make sense. Seriously though, it's your money so you are free to spend it how you wish but wouldn't it be cheaper to pick it up on PS3, 360 or even PC? I think I picked up the collection for about $5-$10 on Steam awhile ago.

    I have them on the 360... I'd like them on a Nintendo console. Didn't know they made it to the PS3.
