Benedict Cumberbatch rules himself out of Star Wars: Episode VII

Says "it won't happen"

Benedict Cumberbatch has ruled himself out of a potential role in Star Wars: Episode VII , during an appearance at Australia's Oz Comic-Con.

Having worked alongside J.J. Abrams on Star Trek: Into Darkness , Cumberbatch's name has been continually linked to the new film, but according to the star, it isn't going to happen.

"I would've liked a part in J.J.'s new Star Wars , but it won't happen, sadly," said Cumberbatch, before also ruling himself out of ever appearing on Doctor Who .

No further explanation was given, although given that this is the same man who flat denied playing Khan in Star Trek: Into Darkness , we'll still be holding on to a shred of hope until the cast is formally announced…

Directed by Abrams and starring Adam Driver, Star Wars: Episode VII will open in the UK on 18 December 2015.
