Batman: Arkham City Watcher in the Wings side mission guide

Some sinister-looking man is stalking your every move, watching you from the rooftops of Arkham City like a murderous hawk. So why not walk up and say hi? The Watcher in the Wings side mission involves you finding this mysterious figure in four separate locations, all of which are unknown to the almighty Batcomputer. Fortunately, our technology exceeds that of the world’s greatest detective.

Make sure to check out the rest of our Batman: Arkham City guides!

Location #1

As soon as Batman completes his first story mission involving Catwoman, you may spot the watcher up on the roof just south of the courthouse. Approach him and he’ll vanish, leaving a symbol behind. Scan that symbol to complete part one of this side mission.

Location #2

In the eastern part of the Industrial District there’s a ferris wheel. The watcher is waiting at the very top. Again, approach him and scan the symbol after he leaves. You’ll need to have finished the steel mill for the first time before the watcher will appear at this location. If you’ve already done that, and the watcher is still absent, try quitting and reloading the game.

Location #3

Look on the roof the building northeast of the entrance to the subway. It’s one of the tallest buildings in the Bowery, so it’s not hard to find. You’ll need to have already interrogated Quincy Sharp before the watcher appears at this location. If you’ve done that, and the watcher is still absent, try quitting and reloading the game.

Location #4

Check the roof of the building just west of GCPD. You’ll need to have already rescued Vicky Vale before the watcher appears in this location. If you’ve done that, and the watcher is still absent, try quitting and reloading the game.

The final sigil

Scanning the fourth symbol that the watcher leaves behind will automatically take you to the Batcomputer screen. Use the right and left sticks to rotate and move the sigil so that its four points match the four locations in which you spotted the watcher. Doing so reveals the watchers final location: the eastern side of the church. Scan the symbol on the wall there to complete this side mission.

Funny story; I just posted a thread in the forums on *POTENTIAL SPOILER* if this character and the prophecy he tells Batman will return in the third Batman game. I hope so, he says how Batman must save a burning Gotham City, etc.

I think his prophecy might tie in with The Scarecrow; if you enter his bug filled creepy as hell barge you can see that he has something massive planned for Gotham, and it got me thinking that perhaps a city wide gas attack of Fear gas possibly enhanced with Titan on Gotham might tie into the prediction. If anything, it obviously meant there will be a sequel, if there wasn't an indicator already.

No, he said Gotham would burn and so would Batman.

Maybe their lungs will "burn" with fear gas? I'm pretty sure Mysterious Watcher didn't literally mean the city would catch on fire, just that some disaster is about to happen.

I'm sure his prophecy is widely open to interpretation, although if he is being literal; fire is synonymous with Hell, and Ra's Al Ghul's name in english is the Demon's Head, and considering Azrael's job is to enforce the will of God, the hell reference seems plausible. I'm pretty sure he even said "the gates of Hell will open, and you will be the one to close it."

I thought it was foreshadowing the next game too. *fingers crossed*

There is also *POTENTIAL SPOILER* the Hush Serial Killer side quest thing. I'd like to see all of these lose ends being tied up in DLC as opposed to a whole new game based around them. That's just my opinion though.

Ah k. Observing my friend navigate the character profiles I just had to ask, "What's Ermac doing there??"
  • nick-dekranes - March 1, 2012 1:26 a.m.

    lmao ermac ftw

That guy kind of reminds me of Azazel. Only true Batman fans will know who Azazel is, sadly.
  • TheInvincibleDragon - October 27, 2011 10:59 a.m.

    Dangit. I mean Azrael.
  • Karamsoul - October 26, 2011 10:20 p.m.

I think you meant to say Azreal, OP. The guy who took up the mantle of the Batman once Bruce's back was broken by Bane.
  • idlemindkiller - October 27, 2011 8:18 a.m.

I think you meant to say Azrael, not Azreal.
  • Furyspittles - October 27, 2011 3:39 a.m.

God damn Azreal is bad ass. I wouldn't mind if he was Batman in the next game if Bruce got his back broken by Bane. It'd definitely make sense, Batman is an ideal, not a person.

The 4th was weird when i found it, I used an ign map that marked it but could never find him, took me hour then I stood on the same building zoomed in to look at the other building and when i turned to my side he was there on the building I was on but wasnt before.
  • archnite - October 27, 2011 7:40 a.m.

IF you don't chase after him when you first come out of the courthouse how do you get him to show up again? I'm really anxious to do this mission but can't seem to get it started.
  • sgloomy - October 27, 2011 8:02 a.m.

he is going to be at one of the locations at any point in the game, I didn't go to him after the courthouse, the first time I saw him was on top of the ferris wheel. you just have to look for him at the locations. when you do find him, through a remote batarang at him to catch, it unlocks a trophy/achievement that won't be possible after finishing this side mission.
  • idlemindkiller - October 27, 2011 8:16 a.m.

You guys didn't mention to throw a remote control batarang at him from a distance. Not a necessity, just an achievement/trophy. Also it is definitely Azrael.
  • Ravenbom - October 27, 2011 10:47 a.m.

Ungh. I really do not like Azrael's character design. He looks like the left over parts from an Assassin's Creed and a failed Mortal Kombat character design. I don't think they should have tried to mash-up the two Azrael character designs.

His face also kinda reminds me of deadpool's design from ultimite alliance 1
