Anarchy Reigns release date confirmed, disappointing

A few weeks back, Platinum Games offered its fans a reassuring note that Anarchy Reigns was already finished, they were just waiting for their publisher, Sega, to make a decision about when to release the title.

Well now they have, and Platinum Games' fans aren't going to like it. In a tweet to a hungry fan today, Sega said that they have reconsidered any launch this Summer. In fact, they've reconsidered any launch in 2012.

"The release of Anarchy Reigns has been re-evaluated. We now expect to launch in Europe and America in Q1 of 2013," the official Sega twitter account wrote today.

We were definitely a little hurt by the news that we wouldn't be getting a new Platinum Games title this Summer, but we understand Sega's point of view. They want to get this niche title as far away from any major releases as possible. The first quarter of the year is traditionally the time when less sure-fire games can find success. The Christmas rush is over, and bank accounts are being replenish after the Call of Duty spending spree.

We just wish they hadn't told us the game was finished. Now we've got to deal with 6-9 months of nightmares of Anarchy Reigns sitting idly on somebody's hard drive.

"Now we've got to deal with 6-9 months of nightmares of Anarchy Reigns sitting idly on somebody's hard drive." GamesRadar, why would you even say that? why did you have to even go so far as to suggest- oh no OH GOD AAAAHHHHHHHH I CAN'T STOP THEM AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH ... **sob**

Looks like I'm about to have spend a few thousand dollars all at once this march. Thanks a lot dumbass publishers...

It's evident Sega's marketing team hasn't been paying attention to the slew of games slapped with "Q1 2013" as a release date...well, hopefully Platinum will make enough money off of Revengeance and that Wii U game that I can't think of the name of to recoup the losses that they'll obviously see from Sega's stupidity.

Seems like Sega haven't been paying attention to anything for years, sadly. And you're right. It's about time Platinum had the commercial success they clearly deserve but have been held back from.

Does that mean Metal gear will be resended to holiday 2012? Seems like it.
  • Edias - June 18, 2012 5:34 p.m.

Very stupid decision on their part, but maybe we'll get some free DLC for the trouble of waiting.

this makes no sense...there are barely any games coming out this summer...all the big name games like ACIII and Sleeping Dogs and dishonored are the fall which means they could possibly get pushed to 2013. and considering the new consoles coming out next year, the devs want to get any remaining games out by q1 2013 so ensure they ahve ample sales time b4 next gen release...GTAV, tomb raider, hitman, bioshock infinite...i could go on...theres literally like 10 big games slated for q1 13...theres like 2 games coming out this summer...HERP DERP DERP DERP HERPES ON MY CATS EYE!

WHAT THE EEEEFFF. Ughh, was still hopeful for late July from reading the platinum blog. I know dog days of summer and all that but the only real competition I can think of off the top of my head is Kingdom Hearts, and that's a totally different audience. If anybody knows a productive place to rage at Sega I'm all in, otherwise this could be one of the first games I import, which might be a little disappointing without any NA competition online.

I had forgotten that this even existed! I look forward to buying this game when it hits $20 a week after it is released. Normally I would support games/developers I like but this is just sheer stupidity. I'm beginning to believe publishers are trying to sink this industry. Look at Rockstar's press release after Max Payne failed to sell half the units of L.A. Noire. Diablo had nothing to do with that..right?....right??
  • Darkhawk - June 18, 2012 3 p.m.

Um, I'm pretty sure Metal Gear is still coming out in 2012. LET'S F***ING DO THIS!!
  • BladedFalcon - June 18, 2012 2:14 p.m.

    ...Wha- ARE THEY FUCKING STUPID!???? Gah, no wonder Platinum games had a hard time selling their games well under SEGA, those idiots don't know how to release their games >_>;

"They want to get this niche title as far away from any major releases as possible"- Y'mean, like, by moving it a hell of a lot CLOSER to PLATINUM's other, bigger, title, the Triple-A Metal Gear RIsing?
  • obviouslyadouche - June 18, 2012 1:51 p.m.

execpt Q1 2013 is already jam packed especially march with already long delayed titles that probably aren't going anywhere.
  • HitmanSB07 - June 18, 2012 1:56 p.m.

This exactly. Q1 has more games than the holiday season in 2012 this year, they should've released it before September. I played the demo from the Japanese psn and it's amazing, such a shame we have to wait over half a year to play it.
