Sony has come out fighting in response to Microsoft's claims that Xbox 360 outsold PS3 by 2:1 in the US last week, calling the figure "way off."
Microsoft has released data touting a 310,000-plus sales figure for Xbox 360 (compared to 350,000 units for Wii in the same period with figures produced by Nintendo). Sony, meanwhile, has kept official units under its hat.
However, Sony has railed against Microsoft's 2:1 claims in a statement:
"It's (Sony Computer Entertainment America) policy not to disclose our unit sales numbers until NPD numbers are officially released which will be December 13th. However, I can assure you that Microsoft's estimates of our PS3 unit sales numbers are way off and they did not outsell PS3 2:1 during Black Friday week," a Sony spokesperson told Seattlepi.com.
Microsoft's 2:1 figure for Xbox 360 versus PS3 sales was according to "estimates from top retailers."
