David Sandberg’s homage to over-the-top ‘80s actioners has hit the web in its entirety to a surge of positive reviews. Why has this low-budget crowdfunded gem won over the entire Internet and racked up 3.2 million views (at the time of writing) in less than a day?
Over the course of 30 minutes, Kung Fury packs in kung-fu cops, norse gods, dinosaurs, sentient video games, time travel hacking and tons of cheesy one-liners. With a production style that models itself on a worn-out VHS tape, endlessly rewound and rewatched, and so-bad-it’s-good animation - it’s well on its way to becoming a cult sensation.
Swedish writer-director Sandberg stars as the titular Miami beat cop, who struts his kung fu stuff battling a particularly evil arcade machine before traveling back in time to take on his nemesis Hitler, who in this world is a kung fu expert. Will Kung Fury defeat the Kung Fuhrer? Will he accept the help of his new partner Triceracop? Watch the full movie below and find out.
Kung Fury. All hail the schlockbuster!
