War Of The Planet Of The Apes gets a new leading man

Simian sequel War Of The Planet Of The Apes has announced the first addition to its human cast, with THR reporting that Gabriel Chavarria has joined the production in a leading role. The star has appeared on TV show East Los High, and will see the casting as a huge break in his embryonic career.

No details have been revealed regarding his character’s identity, and plot details in general are practically non-existent. The previous outing took place some time after the events of the first film, although it remains to be seen whether the sequel will make another significant jump forwards.

What we do know is that Matt Reeves will be back behind the camera, accompanied by Mark Bomback on scripting duties. Reeves has previously commented that the new film will see leading ape Caesar become a kind of Moses figure, attempting to lead his people through a wholly unwanted war. We shall see how that pans out when the film lands in the US on July 14, 2017 and the UK the following week.
