Video shows Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag's historical pirate arsenal

Pirates were the perfect source material for Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag not just for their love of freedom and chaos, but because they used so many instruments of destruction. Buccaneer weapons expert Mike Loades consulted on Black Flag, and he demonstrates in this video blending real-life demonstrations with game footage how it drew from real life.

Yes, even Edward Kenway's stylish dual-swordfighting was practical.

We wonder what Loades would say about Kenway single-handedly harpooning bullsharks half the size of his boat. But then again, there probably weren't too many Pieces of Eden at stake in the real-life golden age of piracy, either.

You can try Kenway's historical weaponry for yourself on PS3, Wii U and Xbox 360 on Oct. 29 U.S./Nov. 1 U.K., on Nov. 19 for PC, and on launch for PS4 and Xbox One.
