The free PS Plus games for November 2019 are available now: you can download claim Nioh and Outlast 2 on PS4 all this month. If you enjoy games like Dark Souls but still haven't tried Nioh, you should be pleasantly surprised by the fresh take on the formula from a studio outside From Software. Or if you prefer just being chased around by terrifying things rather than fighting them, the first-person horror of Outlast 2 will keep you screaming well into Black Friday PS4 deals season.
You'll have until December 2 to claim Nioh and Outlast 2 before they're replaced by the next month's selection, and you'll be able to play them for as long as you remain a PS Plus subscriber. You don't need to actually download the games yet, just add them to your cart and complete the free transaction so they're added to your account.
The studio behind Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive took a shot at Souls-like games with Nioh, and they did pretty darn good. The difficulty is every bit as punishing as you'd expect, given its pedigree, but smooth controls and impressive battle scenes set in a mythical 17th century Japan let it stand on its own (yes, even with Sekiro coming out a few years later). Nioh 2 is set to arrive next year, so consider this your perfect chance to catch up before it does.
Outlast 2 (PS4)
The first Outlast was a seminal horror game, elevating the first-person horror genre to much wider recognition with an extra layer of polish and mercilessly effective scares. The sequel - which moved the setting from a played-out mental institution to a slightly less played-out cult compound - was more divisive. That said, the developers have continued to support Outlast 2 the years since it came out, and sneaking through creepy cornfields would be a good way to stave off your post-Halloween spookiness withdrawals.
